The city of Amsterdam is currently preparing an event to be organised in Brussels (November) in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and the Amsterdam Chief Science Officer (CSO). This event will be a roundtable debate (“Science for the City”), and will focus on the interaction between scientific research and urban challenges. The aim is to involve in this event different city-professionals in Europe who are working as a ‘science officer’.
To make the event a success, the city of Amsterdam is now searching for cities that have already created a special function/position for ensuring the connection between science and policy challenges.
For example, in the city of Amsterdam, the role of the CSO includes identifying relevant trends and innovations, functioning as a contact person between the municipality, knowledge institutions and businesses, and directing the coordination and programming of research commissioned on behalf of the city administration. In other cities, similar functions may have been created, although often with a different title.
And now the city of Amsterdam would like to hear about your city. if you have such city science officer, please, get in touch with Anne Lieke Vonk (A.L.Vonk@amsterdam.nl) by 21 September.
