Three new student blocks in Bolzano's manufacturing area have been given a 'Green Light' to proceed. A total of 564 new 'beds' will be created, thanks to an agreement between the municipal administration and the private sector.

The housing crisis has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges in urban areas around Europe. In order to face housing shortages for university students, the City of Bozen/Bolzano has instructed their offices to proceed with the necessary agreements to accelerate the construction of much needed student dormitories in new areas. A public call was launched in October 2023.

Three sites in total have now been approved, which will provide a total of 564 beds for university students. One student dormitory will be close to the new engineering faculty, which is still under construction. The municipality expects the new accommodation to be available by September 2026. The buildings will be used exclusively for student accommodation, guaranteed by a 20-year bond.
