MagdeMINT: Technology and Natural Sciences for Young People

Over the next 3 years, Magdeburg will try to get children and young people more excited about science and technology with the MagdeMINT* project. The city is receiving funding for this from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Under the leadership of the state capital Magdeburg, "MagdeMINT" brings together local STEM stakeholders. The first partners have come together with the project partners Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and Grünstreifen e.V.. The network is to be gradually expanded in the coming years in order to combine all forces in this area.

With the aim of promoting a natural approach to science and technology among children and young people, the cluster partners are also launching the STEM Compass. To this end, the network will initially set up weekly offers in selected youth centers in the city area, which are intended to encourage a low-barrier approach to science and technology.

Using everyday problems and examples, children and young people are to develop a basic understanding of STEM topics. The activities on offer are intended to show the children and young people perspectives for their own development and to promote their talents.

This is outreach work in the original sense: the partners take the offers to where the target group is, instead of relying on them seeking out the offers on their own. This opens up new places and target groups for STEM education. In this way, children and young people who have had little contact with science and technology are reached.

*MINT is the German short form for STEAM.
