The program is being developed as a joint initiative between the city administration, the university and the Indian Embassy, with each partner contributing its resources and networks. For the city, the event represents an opportunity to strengthen Olomouc’s international profile and bring diverse cultural content to its inhabitants. For the university, it creates a visible platform for intercultural exchange beyond the campus while also fostering cooperation with India.
A central element of the day will be a photo exhibition dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, presented in cooperation with the Indian Embassy. The exhibition will be complemented by an Indian bazaar featuring stalls with traditional food, handicrafts, henna art and other goods, bringing the colours and textures of Indian culture directly into the city centre.
Alongside the exhibition and bazaar, the programme will include live cultural performances as well as practical workshops on ayurveda and yoga, led by professional instructors, teachers and lecturers. These sessions are designed to make Indian wellness traditions accessible to a broad audience and to highlight the benefits of cross-cultural learning.
The Indian Day is an example of initiatives through which Olomouc and Palacký University are working to deepen the city’s engagement with international partners. By combining diplomatic, academic and community dimensions in a single public event, the organisers aim to demonstrate how city–university cooperation can enrich cultural life and open new avenues for dialogue with communities around the world.
