Two international students from Magdeburg were the latest to receive their certificates for the 2025 Otto von Guericke Scholarships, during a ceremony at the Old Town Hall on 9 October 2025.

This year, the scholarship honoured Tenzin Tsering Murry, a student at Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg, and Samadhi Ruvinya Kodikara, a student at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, for their outstanding achievements in science and society. The scholarship supports their commitment with 6,000 euros each, financed from the city budget.

The two scholarship recipients and their guests were warmly welcomed to the award ceremony in the Old Town Hall. On behalf of Mayor Simone Borris, Dr Dorothea Trebesius, Head of the Education and Science Team, together with Prof. Dr Manuela Schwartz, Rector of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, and Dr Uwe Genetzke, Head of the International Office at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, presented the scholarship certificates.

The Otto von Guericke Scholarship recognises foreign students who not only achieve excellent academic results, but also demonstrate a high level of social commitment. Both scholarships are endowed with 6,000 euros each from the city budget and are awarded for a period of one year. The aim is to provide targeted support to the award-winning students and facilitate their studies in Magdeburg.
