The partnership between the sister cities of New Orleans and Innsbruck now spans almost three decades. The UNO Summer School itself dates back even further, having been established in 1976. Since then, more than 10,000 students from the University of New Orleans have taken part in the program alongside students from the University of Innsbruck. In addition to classroom learning, featuring more than a dozen fields of study, the initiative focuses on cultural exchange. Participants are offered many opportunities to explore Innsbruck’s local life as well as its scenic surroundings.
Vice Mayor, Georg Willi, highlighted Innsbruck’s commitment to the success of the Summer School, noting that part of the program includes opportunities for students to engage with local government officials in discussions on municipal, social, and political topics, something that has been greatly appreciated by the students in past years.
Beyond the Summer School, the partnership between the University of New Orleans and the University of Innsbruck generates many joint research projects, publications, and academic events promoting transatlantic academic cooperation and scientific exchange.
The UNO Summer School is a great example of the power of academic and cultural partnership, creating a global learning environment with a long-lasting effect. It continues to strengthen the ties between Innsbruck and New Orleans, benefiting both cities and their universities.
